Austropotamobius torrentium (Schrank, 1803) is one of four native European crayfish species inhabiting Croatian freshwaters and is protected by Croatian law. Altogether 803 animals from two populations in the Karlovačka county were analysed. Animals caught were checked for sex, moulting and reproductive status and 7 morphometric measures were taken, as well as body weight. Animals were marked before releasing. Maximal weight was higher than literature data for this species and most of the animals had total length between 6 and 10 cm. Animals reached sexual maturity at the total body length of 6 cm. Adult males and females differed significantly in morphometric measures, weight, carapace length gain and weight gain speed. Males and females differed significantly between populations in morphometric measures. Males had better condition than females, and juvenile animals had better condition than adults. Adult animals had the best condition in autumn and winter. Using FISAT II software differences in growth parameter K were deterimined between males and females, as well as in total mortality Z, which differed among methods used. Values of carapace length speed did not differ between modal progresion analysis and standard marc-recapture method.
