Significant demogeographic changes in the last 150 years, especially since 1950s, have notably changed the image of the island of Susak's characteristical landscape. Favorable physical-geographical features and economic benefits have led to the development of a wine-growing monoculture production on this island. From the period of agrarian overpopulation, which led to the intensification and overloaded environment, to a sudden emigration and depopulation when the land became derelict, the landscape has experienced visible changes. Considering the interdependence of physical-geographical and socio-geographical factors in environmental shaping, the state of the environment from the first cadastral map from 1821, to the recent changes in the second half of the 20th century and present days were analyzed. Within the demographic revitalization, the future development of the island should follow the way of sustainable tourism and ecological agriculture.
