Abstract

Modern distribution of the population on the Kvarner and North Dalmatian islands is the result of different possibilities of natural - geographic basis, geotraffic position, historical and geographical development of the island's settlements, socio - economic factors and contemporary demographic processes. There is an obvious disparity between the population of distant islands and closer, coastal islands, or those linked with bridge to the mainland. As the size of the island and the distance from the mainland are constant, it is valid to seek the appropriate procedures that could be used for repairing the difficult population status and affect the problem of demographic development. Accordingly, the paper will try to propose several measures to stop or to improve negative population structure of the Kvarner and North Dalmatian islands.
