The theme of this paper is the development of industry in Japan. In this research, two methodological concepts are related – the historical and the geographical. This paper analyzes the socio- economic characteristics that have caused the Japanese industrial development. This is followed by a review of the organization of industry, through the control system, the position of workers, the impact of religion on economic development, industrial areas, the role of Japan in the world, to the present situation. In the final part, the possibilities and the projection of the future development of the industry of Japan, which indicates negative development trends that are reflected in the demographic indicators, are presented.
