A developed transport system provides quick and strong economic progress of a particular area. The area of Varazdin County represents the northwestern part of the Croatian circuit to European transport systems with its traffic-geographical position. Given the high population density and a large number of settlements, but also a lot of traffic geographical significance of this area, the Varazdin County transportation system is well developed. The planned construction of a fast road Varazdin-Ivanec-Krapina has great significance for the northwestern Croatia because it would connect the two county capitals, Varazdin and Krapina. The aim of this paper is to describe and analyze the current state of the transport system of the Varazdin County and to indicate the prospects of its further development, which go beyond the county itself.
