Geopolitics is a discipline which focuses on geographic basis of power in international community. It is subjective interpretation of political, geographical and other contents whose purpose is to promote states or alliances interests for gaining territorial control or influence. Geostrategy refers to strategic content of space determined by physical or economical factors: size of territory, spatial relations, and strategic resources etc. that all have influence on practical military questions. Kosovo doesn't have significant resources, but is placed in Balkans Heartland. It is large traffic and geopolitical crossroad in politically unstable area (Serbia – Albania – Montenegro), and in relations of Muslims (Albania and Kosovo) with orthodox (Serbia). In a wider sense, this is area of confrontation of West (NATO) which has military bases here, and Russia, which seeks to spread its interests trough Serbia. Advantage of Kosovo, besides its position and connection with Albanian see ports is its natural fortification system with mountain ranges which encircle it and also many valley accesses as strategic ways directed to neighboring countries, which enable fast reaction, which NATO can use to support its eastern members (Bulgaria). Purpose of this work is to show current situation in which Kosovo is and the influence which Kosovo has on relations in Balkan, but also in geopolitical relations between West and Russia.
