Abstract

This paper analyzes the phenomenon of urban gardening in Zagreb. Urban gardens, in different shapes, are increasingly popular and have spread worldwide. Community garden is the most popular form of urban agriculture that have been shown to have proven multiple benefits for participants and the wider community. Benefits of community gardens for participants, can be understood through the following macro-level categories: social, cultural, health, economic, environmental/ecological and education. In Zagreb, community gardens are a result of non-governmental organization initiatives and have been established only recently, in early 2013, or are still in the process of being established.
