Abstract

Aquaculture represents breeding and harvesting of plants and animals in all types of water environments. It includes the control of reproduction and growth and the elimination of the causes of natural mortality. In this study different combinations of temperature, density of juvenile specimens and type of food were used to determine which parameters and in which combination were most favourable for the growth of juvenile crayfish Astacus astacus in their third year of life. During period of five months (between May and October 2014), data on weight, length and sex of individuals were collected, as well as water temperature data. In addition, at the end of the research period physiological parameters which were dependent on aquaculture treatments were identified and for this purpose hepatosomatic and muscle indexes have been applied. It was found that the largest increase in the total body mass (134,07%) was achieved in the next treatment: greenhouse (higher temperature), meat diet, lower density (21 specimens/m2) and largest increase in total length (27,87%) was achieved in the next treatment: greenhouse (higher temperature), meat diet, higher density (42 specimens/m2). Also, some statistically significant differences in condition indexes between treatments were found. It turned out that food and temperature were the most significant factors that affected energy status of juvenile specimens.
