Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the structure, dynamics and migration patterns of macroinvertebrates and patterns of energy flow through moss mats of tufa barriers. The study was done during 2006 at the tufa barrier Novakovića Brod (Plitvice lakes). Macroinvertebrate migrations were monitored using traps that were open in the front, back, top, lateral and on all sides. The physical and chemical parameters of water indicate constant conditions during the study. In total, 12 groups of macroinvertebrate were determined. The dominant groups were insect larvae, namely Trichoptera, Plecoptera, Chironomidae (Diptera). Lateral migration was dominant. Organic matter particles were transported both actively - laterally by animals and passively - frontally by water current.
