Abstract

Changes in crustacean plankton assemblages in the varying limnological gradients of the Butoniga reservoir (Croatia) were investigated in the period from May to November 2013. Six species of micro crustaceans were determined, four cladocerans - Bosmina longirostris (O. F. Müller, 1785) Diaphanosoma brachyurum (Liévin, 1848), Ceriodaphnia sp., Daphnia sp. and two copepods - Eudiaptomus gracilis (Sars G.O., 1863) and Cyclops sp.. The population density was in range from 1 ind. / 10 L to 397 ind. L. jed./10. In all seasons and at all stations maximum values were observed in metalimnion and hipolimnion layers. The total biomass was in the range of 0.01 μg / 10 L and 3507 μg / 10 L. Cladocera dominated over Copepoda. Abundance and biomass macrozooplankton decreased compared to the previous survey. Correlation coefficients indicate that the water temperature could be one of the most important abiotic factors influencing macrozooplankton community.
