Abstract

Brassinosteroids are steroid plant hormones involved in regulation of plant growth, development and response to environmental stress. In this paper the role of brassinosteroids in abiotic stress tolerance is shown. Brassinosteroids can make plants more tolerant to unfavourable conditions such as drought, salinity, extreme temperatures and exposure to toxic heavy metals. Because of its positive effect on plants exposed to abiotic stress, brassinosteroids have a high potential for application in modern agriculture.
