Abstract

Religion has always been an important part of human civilization because it determined it's ways and achievements. In the earliest times pilgrims have visited kilometers distant destinations, to ask their patrons for help, protection, intercession and comfort and therefore, in terms of tourism, faith was one of the oldest motives for travel. This thesis analyzes the situation of religious tourism in Ludbreg and it's development perspectives. Ludbreg Sanctuary of the Precious Blood of Christ is the only eucharistic sanctuary in the Republic of Croatia, built on a tradition of 600 years old wonder. Furthermore, Ludbreg is known as the only sanctuary in Croatia formaly recognized by Pontificial certificate, which stands as the ideal prerequisite for it's development perspectives. Along with conventional methods of research, the thesis also includes survey study. All of displayed maps are made in ArcGIS 9.3.
