The rural-urban fringe in in literature is commonly referred as the transition zone where it is mixed and often facing rural and urban space. In theory, the space surrounding urban zone is changing by influence of urban central settlement. Functions that were strictly determined only for urban space are now changing position to ruralno-urban fringe. That includes migrating of business or traffic functions and also residential and recreational activities. That kind of moving of functions is seen as land-use and landscape changes which means that is very easy to notice new roads, business-manufacture zones and new residential neighbourhoods. Using GIS application and data from CORINE land cover programe the features of land-use changes in rural-urban fringe were analyzed. The type of change and it's quantitative indicator was registered. After the detection and visualization of those changes, the analysis was transfered on determination of factors causing the transformation. It was indicated that physical-topografic modificators that are specific for Rijeka agglomeration were crucial factor for conversion of land-use. Beside that, the new traffic facilities like highways were also important for increasing of availability of outer municipalities. This process will only increase urbanization and land-use change in rural-urban fringe of Rijeka.
