Birdwatching tourism is one of the fastest-growing forms of selective tourism. The Zagreb County has a great diversity of bird species, which offers a potential for this form of tourism, with the advantage of the proximity of the city of Zagreb, a potentially emissive tourist centre. This thesis provides a theoretic concept of the birdwatching related tourism, as well as an overview of its status in Croatia and the rest of the world, and presents the potential for its development in the Zagreb County. In order to obtain a full view, the research involved different participants whose role is relevant in realizing this potential. This includes surveys and interviews of the local population, owners of bird-populated areas, ornithologists, bird watchers, public institutions for management of protected areas of the Zagreb County, as well as the Tourist boards, agencies, and public institutions which have already developed this form of tourism. The thesis is concluded with a SWOT analysis and a demonstration of the potential tourist products based on the birdwatching activity.
