Abstract

This thesis is about the demogeographic and economic analysis of the City of Omiš from after the World War II until today. Strenghtening of industry led to concentration of people and activities in Omiš and other settlements alongside the coast. At the same time, settlements in the hinterland were demographically emptied and agriculture was completely abandoned as a primary activity. In 1990s due to weakend industry, Omiš and its surroundings have been turning to tourism as the main economic activity. Inside the City of Omiš there is a noticeable trend of population concentrating in the settlement area of Omiš alongside depopulation and aging in settlements not on the coast. With further development of tourism, there is a huge potential in reviving agriculture as well as in agritourism as the way to integrate tourism and agriculture.
