Abstract

This paper presents spatial development of Zaprešić focusing of the period from the middle of the 20th century until today. In that period, under the influence of suburbanization and satelitization of Zagreb rural-urban fringe Zaprešić developed from rural settlement into a modern satellite city. Intense immigration caused the population growth and the formation of urban functions, which caused big changes in the socio-spatial and functional-spatial structure of the city, expansion of the city and changes in the morphological structure. Because of the development of urban functions, there is increased gravitation of population from rural surrounding to Zaprešić, and he became the center of the whole northwestern part of the Zagreb agglomeration. Today, Zaprešić is developing as a typical satellite city, is part of the the daily urban system of Zagreb and is highly dependent of his main city, which is most shown by intense daily migrations.
