Abstract

In this master thesis the impacts of natural-geographic and socio-geographic factors on the uneven economic development of municipalities Dugopolje and Muć are observed and analyzed. Municipalities are located in the central hinterland area of the Split-Dalmatia County. Due to their peripheral position in relation to other areas within the county, potential development opportunities of municipalities Dugopolje and Muć are reduced. Although the municipalities are geographically close and have similar identity and seemingly same characteristics, in economic terms they are completely distant. The analysis has proven that the natural-geographic factors do not affect the uneven economic development of municipalities, and that the socio-geographic factors have the decisive role instead. Dugopolje, in relation to Muć, is an example of a developed rural municipality. The rapid economic development in the Dugopolje municipality has led to positive socio-geographic characteristics. On the other hand, Muć municipality has seen negative development trends.
