Abstract

The research topic includes the administrative area of the Town of Klanjec which consists of 19 settlements. Problematic border area of Klanjec county represents a marginal area in modern conditions of development of Krapina-Zagorje County. Stagnation in development primarily results from unfavorable transportation position which is influenced by geographical position – on the edge of the county, away from the axis of development. Using the analysis of statistical data, the existing legal, planning and development documents and relevant literature on this issue, along with the help of cartographic methods (GIS), it was found that the population, as a major factor for regional development, is in the stage of ageing and extinction, which limits the revitalization of the area. The main development potential can be seen in the development of tourism given the rich cultural and historical heritage and attractive natural geographical basis, which should be a boost to the development of local family farms and businesses.
