In this paper we have examined the concept of polynomial and its development through primary school, secondary school and university education. Polynomials are first mentioned in the seventh grade of primary school when a linear function is taught. It is followed by a quadratic function, i.e., a polynomial of the second degree which is taught in eighth grade and that continues in the second grade of secondary school. Polynomials of higher degrees are taught at the end of the fourth grade of secondary school when the students draw a graphic representation of a function using the differential calculus. The knowledge of polynomials is expanded and deepened in university education when many theorems are being proven and then used to solve tasks. Apart from describing the development of polynomials through education, we have noticed many applications of polynomials and their use in everyday life. We have illustrated how the knowledge of polynomials can be used to simplify the calculus in seemingly complicated tasks.
