Abstract
Transcendental numbers were discovered in 1844 by French mathematician Liouville. Very important discovery in the area of transcendental numbers is Lindemann’s theorem from 1882. Special case of this theorem imply the transcendence of numbers e and π. Discovering transcendence of the number π, Lindemann solved the ancient Greek problem of squaring the circle. This paper describes the results of the most famous classic transcendental number theory discovered in the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. Although the theory of transcendental numbers is very important and fundamental part of the theory of numbers, its results are not widely known. These results were considered too difficult, but in fact fundamental principles underlying the whole discipline are simple and represent foundation of the whole theory of numbers.
