Abstract

This paper analyzes the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Croatia, starting from the very beginnings to the latest experiences as part of the European Union. For a better understanding of this issue explanations of the terms region, regionalism, regional policy and others are given. The principles of regionalism promoted by the EU are shown as well as the way in which these principles are implemented in the case of Croatia. Problems encountered by the regionalization of the Republic of Croatia, and possible directions for improving the situation are described too.
