Abstract

Analysis of data acquired from electronic tide gauge placed in the Bakar Bay has been carried out. The power spectra calculated form data shows that the first mode has periods of T11 = 26.53 min, T12 = 22.63 min, T13 = 19.92 min, then the second one T21 = 8.06 min, T22 = 7.79 min, T23 = 7.24 min, and the third one T3 = 4.27 min. It can be seen that the modes of the Bakar Bay, save for the third one, have multiple periods. The biggest span of the periods is found for the first mode with a value of almost 7 min. The second mode periods have span of about one minute. Calculation of the periods using simplified theoretical model has also been done with the purpose of comparing them with observed values and examining influence of position of nodal line at the bay mouth on periods. The nodal lines were placed at the cross sections Cape Škrkovac – Cape Lipica, Cape Oštro – Cape Molnarić and Cape Srednji – Cape Nirvana. Depending on the mouth length, calculated periods for the first mode were 21.45 min, 19.05 min and 17.11 min, the second mode periods were 8.08 min, 7.73 min and 6.86 min, and finally for the third mode the periods were 4.89 min, 4.95 min and 4.92 min. The first mode periods calculated from model and those from data are in disagreement, although calculated result has a difference between longest and shortest period of about 4 min which somewhat correspodends with the measured difference. For the higher modes, periods are in much better agreement.
