Abstract

Recent state and seasonal fluctuations of striped red mullet have been investigated monthly (January – December 2009) using trammel bottom net (''maha'' mesh size 28 mm) at four areas out of which tree were inside Kornati National Park (strictly protected zone – Klobučar Island; partially protected zones – Mana and Kurba Vela Islands) and one zone was outside of Kornati National Park (Žut Island). Biological and ecological characteristics of the target species were analyzed and age of individuals were determined. During the year 2009 collected 947 individuals whose abundance in areas with different protection regime does not indicate a higher value ''strictly protected areas'', or greater value within the park compared area outside the park.
