Abstract

Student volunteering is developing in the last twenty years mostly in developed countries of the world driven by universities. Students go on long term international volunteering projects to score extra points for classes or future employment. While choosing the destination students are motivated by leisure motives and they choose tourist location like Croatia. In Croatia there are few volunteer camps where students from all over the world volunteer. Camps are developed on association for the protection of animals which are found by people for small communities in Croatia. With volunteers and tourist that came in, by then, non-tourist places, a lot of changes take place like development of infrastructure, construction of centre, places for animal care and tourist objects like restaurants and hotels. Research covered analysis of volunteering in world and Croatia, analysis of student volunteering in Croatia, field research in volunteer camps in Croatia and survey research with people from local communities and foreign students that volunteered in Croatia. Goal of master thesis is to show the role of student volunteering in local communities in Croatia, to map volunteering of croatian students in the world and to show student volunteering as the new form of tourism.
