Abstract

The subject of this master thesis is a research of the impact of construction of football stadiums on the city transformation. Using the examples from around the world, especially from Europe and Croatia, the thesis gives insight into socio-cultural and economic impacts of stadium on the surrounding area and population, as well as their architectural symbolism. Author discusses the economic impacts of major sports events and their ability to change the image and stimulate the regeneration of cities. The thesis explores the location of the stadiums in the past and in the present, as well as reasons for their relocation. At the end of the work, author analyzed stadium names in order to identify trends, similarities and differences between countries.
