Abstract

The contemporary geography education requires the use of modern education strategies. One of those strategies refers to nonlinguistic representations. When presenting geographic processes, a nonlinguistic representation process/cause-consequence has a special role. The aim of this work was to determine a possible role of nonlinguistic representations in the understanding of geographical processes by analyzing the results of the survey research conducted in high school. The analysis of the research results points out the differences in understanding geographic processes that were presented on linguistic and nonlinguistic strategies. Also, the reasearch showed that students are not familiar enough with nonlinguistic teaching strategy, but the results emphasize that this teaching strategy has an important implementation potential in teaching geography.
