Abstract

The subject of this research work are changes that have occurred in land cover in the area of Koprivnica-Križevci County from 1992 to 2011, using the supervised classification of Landsat satellite images from the archives of the Global Land Survey 1990 and 2010. Land cover changes due to physio- and socio- geographical factors. In the analysed period, studied area has been characterised with negative demographic processes that have been manifested in the physical transformation of the land cover such as reducing agricultural cultivated area or increasing grassland area. The thesis analyses the basic characteristics of the county that could affect land cover changes and presents a brief theoretical overview of the remote sensing methods while focusing on the satellite image processing. Regression analysis revealed a statistical correlation between changes in land cover and analysed physio- and socio- geographical variables. Research showed that the land cover changes occurred in the one third of county area; furthermore, the largest spatial coverage is expressed in reducing the share of processed surface. Deagrarisation is the most common model of land cover change in this county.
