Abstract

The main development characteristics of Banovina Region are analyzed through three main eras: the Turkish Wars, the era of Yugoslavia and the modern Republic of Croatia. During the Wars against the Turks, Banovina Region was constantly threatened by the turkish army and was organized as part of militarized zone called The Military Frontier. The unclear and complicated territorial organization were the main characteristics of Yugoslavian period. The Croatian War of Independence caused a massive infrastructure damage and many civilian victimes were deliberately killed by the enemy. Many other war crimes were also committed. The modern era Banovina is undeveloped part of Sisak-Moslavina County with poor transport system.
