Abstract

In last 50 years, tourism has made singificant spatial influence in Dubrovačko primorje. In its development fase before the homeland war that influence was minimal but it caused positive changes in demographic structure of littoral settlements where it was developed. After the war, tourism was slowly revitalized but its spatial influence was bigger and bigger as years went by. Today, the unplanned and spontaneous tourism development caused big pressure on the space which led to loss in quality of the space. In the future it can cause entering the consolidation or decline fase based on the Butler model of tourism area life cycle. In the continental settlements of the region tourism is not yet developed because of negative demographic structure which causes polarization in the region. Region's touristic development totally depends on vicinity of Dubrovnik. That's why it's necessary that Dubrovačko primorje develops its own touristic offer and uses its attractions to truly develop tourism.
