Springs represent a unique aquatic ecosystems typified by constant chemical conditions, complex biotic interactions and habitat heterogeneity. They are contact zones between surface and groundwater. The level of scientific interest in springs increased due to their high sensitivity and vulnerability to environmental change. The composition and diversity of macroinvertebrate fauna and ecological state of the karst spring Zrmanja were evaluated during the four sampling season (May to December 2014). The 80 samples were collected at the spring source on the dominated microhabitats using standard benthos net. No significant changes were recorded during the two years measurement (May 2014 to July 2016) of physicochemical parameters. Macroinvertebrate community composition indicates domination of Amphipoda as a permanent and Ephemeroptera, Diptera (Chironomidae) and Plecoptera as a permanent/temporary aquatic fauna during the all seasons. According to macroinvertebrate composition, abundance, species diversity and analysed physicochemical properties of water, the water quality in the spring brook of the Zrmanja River was assessed as a good.
