Mariculture can help us appease growing demand for food, which is inevitable consequence of growth of human population. There are negative consequences on biodiversity of ecosystems, which go hand in hand with mariculture. From clashes with other users of littoral, to eutrophication and possibility of alien species the mariculture has a negative image in the public eye. There is also danger from spreading disease and genetic contamination of wild populations. Despite all the negative consequences on the ecosystems mariculture is growing rapidly, if all of the above problems are properly addressed there should not be any obstacles to having sustainable mariculture.
