Abstract

In this dissertation are presented the results of multidisciplinary research that improved knowledge about distribution and activity concentrations of natural and anthropogenic radionuclides as well as their total inventories in top sediment of Middle and South Adriatic. Also, these investigations helped to identify those Adriatic areas that are more susceptible to radioactive contamination. The sedimentation process of suspended matter in the sea-water has been investigated and radiocaesium penetration rate to lower sediments was estimated, which supplied additional information about deep water and its residence time in the areas of Jabuka and South-Adriatic pits. Natural radioactivity of the islands of magmatic origin (Brusnik and Jabuka) has been investigated. Analysis of radiological risk for population dwelling in the areas of the Middle and South Adriatic was performed using external hazard index of gamma radiation, radium equivalent activity and radioecological sensitivity as tools.
