Abstract

Springs are places where water emerges at the surface and forms a surface stream. Karst springbrook have complex hydrologic characteristics making it a unique habitats on the verge of underground and surface area which is characterized by stable abiotic factors. In this paper we investigated the macroinvertebrate community that inhabits the karst sprinbrooks at two stations, springbrook of the river Krčić which regularly dry up in the warmer months of the year and springbrook of the river Kosovčica which represent permanent karst streams. At the same time accompanied by their physico-chemical characteristics. Macroinvertebrate communities was sampling by the AQEM method. Except for temperature, the values of physico - chemical characteristics did not show greater fluctuations in values. At the springbrook of the river Kosovčica it was recorded greater species diversity than the springbrook of river Krčić, which often lack permanent representatives of fauna such as Oligochaeta and Gastropoda. Longitudinal zonation of flow and trophic structure of macroinvertebrate communities of caddisfly indicate that a stream belongs to zone of hypocrenal and epirital and shredders are the most dominant functional groups.
