Abstract

Herbarium „Trinajstić“ is a part of the Croatian Natural History Museum's collection. Out of aproximately 60.000 specimens, 2008 have been processed representing the sample on which this thesis is based on. Using a professional camera mounted on a stand, all of the specimens where photographed. After the processing of the pictures, 1286 of them where uploaded to Flora Croatica Database. 1870 specimens were geocoded, and 1330 of them were collected in Croatia. Analysis has identified 400 different taxa, and according to the number of specimens as well as taxa, the largest family are Fabaceae. Herbarium specimens were collected in the period between 1909 and 1991. The highest number of specimens was collected in Croatia (1350) on 372 unique sites. Most of them were collected (833) and identified (780) by Trinajstić himself. Analysis revealed the presence of 25 endemic, 24 threatened and 94 protected species. Also, a general national standard for digitizing botanical specimens was proposed.
