The micropropagation possibility for European bedstraw (Galium rubioides L.), a critically endangered species was investigated. Shoots originated from aseptically germinated seeds were used for culture initiation. The multiplication rate per explant was higher on full MS medium. Increasing the concentration of BA in medium had a positive effect on multiplication rates in all subcultures. On MS full medium the highest shoot number was observed with addition of 1,0 μM BA while on half-strength MS medium the highest shoot number was observed when no BA was added. The length of first shoots increased with increasing concentration of BA. The second shoots were significantly shorter. Some shoots incubated on multiplication media rooted spontaneously. Also, in some cultures development of callus tissue was observed. Shoots were successfully rooted on MS medium containing three different kinds of auxins in various concentrations. The best rooting was observed on media supplemented with 2,5 or 4,9 μM IBA. Acclimatization of shoots to outdoor conditions was very succesfull with a surviving rate of 90%.
