The aim of this paper was to research bird migration dynamics across the swamp area Lake Vransko and to analyze the most abundant species and determine their origin. Research methods include bird capturing with vertical ornithological mist nets, bird ringing and determination of captured birds. Data processing was done with Microsoft Office Excel and Saga software. The research was conducted on basis of bird recoveries during an 11 year period (2001.-2011.). Total of 814 birds were recovered, 362 domestic and 452 foreign recoveries. They show that Lake Vransko is of great importance as a stopover site for migratory birds of African-Eurasian migratory system, whether they migrate using the southwest, southeast or central migratory flyway from Europe to Africa. The most abundant species of this area are: Great Reed-warbler, Moustached Warbler, Eurasian Reed-warbler, Sedge Warbler, Barn Swallow, Eurasian Penduline-tit, Sand Martin, Common Kingfisher and Blackcap. These species have different migratory strategies. Migratory birds are very endangered animal group because of their migration. In order to protect a particular species, it is necessary to identify and protect all stopover sites and wintering ground of that species. As a crossroads of the three migratory paths, Lake Vransko is of special importance and the reedbeds of this swamp area are an important habitat, stopover site and wintering ground for birds.
