Abstract

The educational resources, human potential, geography teachers' initial education and pupils' achievements in geography have been analysed in the thesis. The education resources have been presented on the level of primary schools' enrolment areas of the City of Zagreb and eight counties of Central Croatia. The typology of enrolment areas and primary schools was made based on the abstracted indicators, and according to total number of classes and number of classes in subject teaching. The human potential characteristics have been presented on the level of certain regional administrative spatial units as well as for the researched area in total. With teachers' initial education, the needs and model for professional education have been presented and compared with selected European models. The relation between enrolment areas' characteristics, primary schools and teachers as well as pupils achivements in geography at the end of primary education has been questioned.
