Eight caves on seven islands along the Eastern Adriatic were investigated. The aim of this thesis is to obtain information about changes in the paleoenvironment, especially in the last 10 000 years, based on the age and the variation of δ18O and δ13C from speleothems. Dating of the speleothems was determined by mass spectrometry 230Th/234U. Measurements ofδ18O and δ13C in speleothems and δ18O of water were performed on Finnigan GasBenchIIAnalyzed speleothems recorded the period from the Upper Pleistocene to the Upper Holocene along with numerous interruptions in growth. It was found that there are differences in the way of deposition of speleothems depending of the transition from warm to cold and wet to dry periods and that the area of the Eastern Adriatic is the borderland between Atlantic and the Mediterranean atmospheric influences. Several significant changes of δ18O and δ13C, accompanied by change in growth rate and texture of the analyzed speleothems have been determined. Positive correlation between the observed isotope values of speleothems MSM-1, VSM-1, SPD-1 and SPD-2 and speleothem isotope values from Soreq Cave (Israel), Corchia cave (Italy), Villars cave (France) and δ18O N.GRIP ice core for the same time interval, indicate that they were affected by the same and/or similar factors. This confirms that general climatic and environmental parameters control the recorded variations and that they are not influenced only by local conditions.
