Abstract

Like most world cities, the city of Zagreb is facing with parking problems and disproportion between needs and demands. This problem is caused by constant increase of the level of motorization which implies a larger number of vehicles on the city roads. Stationary traffic is a part of road traffic. Therefore review of the whole traffic system in the city of Zagreb is a part of this study. Taking in account all mentioned above, it is supposed that the construction of the new capacities in the city area is needed. Factors that are considered to be crucial for definition of their best location according to the geographic point of view, are selected in the conducted analysis. These factors are spatial distribution of employed population, spational distribution of existing capacities of garages and roads that according to the functional categorization make a framework of the Zagreb trafic system. Analysis is made by using GIS modelling and results are presented on maps.
