Abstract

The main prerequisite for the development of tourism in Karlovac county are its favourable geographical and transport position, particular hydrological area and geomorphologic conditions. Importance of natural heritage, especially rivers, became the main focus of attention on which various touristic contents are centred. This research is focused on gathering information about general knowledge, visiting frequency, number of recreational facilities, and the rivers’ natural heritage. For each river, tourist attractions, percentage in tourist movement, forms of valorisation, etc. was brought forth. Different geographical impacts on the river valleys are important for the development of tourism and recreational facilities, as well as their direct effect on the land itself, regarding the construction of summer houses along the river banks. Pros and cons of these touristic activities are stated, and the possibilities of further development and perspective that could bring the tourist attractions along the river valleys of the Karlovac county in the focus of attention.
