Abstract

Population of County of Požega-Slavonia is marked by reduction in its absolute numbers, the continuous decline of natural increase, the prevalence of migrational routes in relation to the volume of immigration, as well as the turbulent changes in demogeographic structure. The main causes of depopulation are the emigration movements, but it is considered that their importance will decrease, while at the same time the negative impact of mortality by reducing or stabilizing the birth will strengthen. The most affected demographic areas in the area of County of Požega-Slavonia are hilly and mountainous frame and war-ravaged areas. The space of mountain massifs and ridges is very sparsely populated and according to the tendency of empting, this area can be expected to become a completely demographic extinct region. Suffering and destruction in the war led to the flows of forced emigration, which contributed to the already existing negative demographic and depopulation trends in settlements of County of Požega-Slavonia.
