Abstract

The paper describes the basic features of the Military Frontier in the sixteenth century and its fortifications. 71 fortifications have been included in the analysis. The fortification density has been determined and the directional distribution and fortification disposition have been analyzed. The relation between the fortification distribution and spatial features has been described. For the purpose of the pattern analysis and neighborhood analysis, the ArcGIS 9.3 software developed by ESRI has been used, with its Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions.
